Headwaters is an independently owned Specialty Outdoor shop located spitting distance from the Arkansas River in historic downtown Salida. We've been here since 1987 serving the outdoor gear and clothing needs of both locals and tourists.
But gear isn't all you'll find at Headwaters. The staff is knowledgable and friendly, and can point you in the right direction for any kind of adventure you can think of. We actually get out and participate in the sports we sell, unlike in the "big box" and chain stores, and we can tell you about current conditions on the trails, slopes or river.
The store stocks sportswear and outerwear, hiking shoes, climbing gear, kayaks, tele skis, packs, tents, and sleeping bags. Also a large selection of books, maps and everything else you need to round out your trip. If we don't have it we'll try and get it, and we can ship it for you. Kayak, Rafting, Ski and Ice Climbing rentals are available.
